Mahabub Nagar is one of the main districts in Andhra Pradesh which is located at a distance of 96-km from Hyderabad.

It is surrounded by the Nalgonda, Kurnool, Raichur and Gulbarga districts and River Krishna borders it in the south. With its headquarters at Mahabubnagar, the other important towns in the district are Achampet, Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Jadcherla, Nagarkurnool, Shadnagar, Kothakota, Atmakur, Devarakadra, Pebbair and Kalwakurthy.

మహబూబ్ నగర్ was formerly known as "Rukmammapeta" "రుక్మమ్మపేట" and "Palamooru" " పాలమూరు".

The previous name was changed to Mahabub Nagar on 4th December 1890, in honor of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, the Nizam of Hyderabad (1869-1911 AD). It has been the headquarters of the district from1883 AD.

The Mahabub Nagar Region was once known as Cholawadi or the 'land of the Cholas'.
It is believed that the famed Golconda diamonds including the world famous "Kohinoor" diamond came from Our district.
